The house blog of the future
An Instagram channel documenting the adventure of a young couple building their own home. They share daily updates on their channel explaining why they chose SLV lighting and the challenges they faced.
It was important for the two builders to establish a consistent style throughout the house in the lighting design. Additionally, the lighting should adapt permanently to the future use, ensuring maximum flexibility.
Smart GU10 light bulbs were to fit into the fixtures. Moreover, Susanna and Marc desired a mix of direct and indirect lighting that also perfectly highlights artworks. For all these reasons, Susanna and Marc chose track lighting from SLV. Hardly any other type of lighting offers more flexibility: With track lighting, all fixtures can be exchanged, added, or repositioned.
Track lighting is also impressive in terms of energy efficiency: With indirect lighting and smart control, electricity can be saved.
Susanna and Marc Mevißen have been sharing all the progress with their followers since the groundbreaking in 2020, right up to the completion this year.
It is particularly noteworthy that the two of them created everything themselves except for the shell of the building.
Despite the work on the house taking place after their actual work, they paid particular attention to sustainable construction, energy efficiency and sophisticated design.
The result: After only 22 months, the house was ready to move into.
We chose SLV from the beginning and that made lighting planning much easier for us.
Marc Mevißen, Architect.
Why Susanna and Marc chose lights from SLV : Marc Mevißen already knew SLV from his architecture studies when he
had dealt with staging using light and shadow in the showroom.
When planning the lighting for their own dream house, the two influencers were particularly impressed by the design and the attractive price-performance ratio of the power rails.
In addition, SLV provided excellent support and fast service.
The dining room of Susanna and Marc's house has a large open space with a height of 5.65 m.
The two wanted to create a kind of sculpture made of lights above the dining table.
As a basic structure, power rails were invisibly integrated into the acoustic ceiling to maintain maximum flexibility. To generate ideas, the SLV team collaborated with the clients on-site, drawing inspiration and presenting numerous new lighting options.
“We liked the PANTILO from SLV best in terms of design and color, as it aesthetically fills the space without being dazzling,” explains Susanna Mevißen. “We really love the reflection in the lamps, and they complete our concept.”
The PANTILO pendant light impresses with its exceptional appearance:
The shade made of chrome-plated glass can easily be combined to create a stylish cloud of lights through individual arrangement.
The seven PANTILO lights above the large dining table perfectly match the high wooden ceiling, the light walls, the grey floor and the black window frames in Susanna and Marc's house.
Lights are not only functional—they can also give a room an identity as a piece of art.
Susanna Mevißen.
The house is equipped with SLV lighting not only on the ceilings:
Spotlights are also integrated into the floor, where the colors can be individually adjusted.
The two homeowners opted for indirect lighting and smart controls for all lighting solutions in their dream house:
Depending on the light intensity in the room, some indirect lights illuminate the surroundings/room in the evening and bathe the house in the desired ambience.
This means that hardly any light needs to be actively switched on, which saves energy.
Thanks to well-thought-out insulation, a flat roof with a photovoltaic system, and selected materials such as concrete, wood, glass, and natural stone, the passive house of influencers Susanna and Marc meets the KfW40+ standard and is a plus-energy building. With the photovoltaic system, they produce significantly more energy than they consume. The house also includes an energy storage system and a wallbox to use the electricity even more effectively.
This approach also fits our sustainability strategy: We also strive to use secondary raw materials in the production of lighting solutions, consistently reduce packaging waste and transportation emissions.
